Having the role of listener can be understood in terms of the interactive system as a type of activity or behavior. Speaker and listener normally cooperate with each other in bearing the responsibility for the development of the interaction. The responsibility is, however, not equally shared by speaker and listener. The speaker in his capacity of turn holder has, as was given in the definition of turn, the greatest share of the burden of responsibility for contributing to and/or determining the development in the course of the interaction.
